AWS + Kinetica
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) provides secure, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale cloud computing easier for developers. Amazon EC2’s simple web service interface allows you to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction. It provides you with complete control of your computing resources and lets you run on Amazon’s proven computing environment.
Kinetica leverages EC2 Accelerated Computing instances. Kinetica can be used on AWS using a Bring-Your-Own-License (BYOL) approach.
The Kinetica solution for NORAD provides a great example of Kinetica on AWS in action.
AWS Solution Example: NORAD
The volume and speed of data involved in monitoring airspace, especially when compounded with the need for real-time results, is a non-starter for companies offering traditional data analysis technologies. In contrast to command-and-control systems, Kinetica’s solution harnesses the massive parallelization of distributed computing, tapping into thousands of processing cores on AWS GovCloud to analyze huge datasets with trillions of rows. Kinetica’s time and space database is able to rapidly ingest and correlate airborne objects across sensors, providing situational awareness across our airspace.
As an open cloud platform, data science teams are able to bring their machine learning models to Kinetica on AWS to perform entity classification and anomaly detection within the streaming data warehouse. By applying machine learning on data as it streams in, the military is able to more rapidly determine what a detected object is and predict whether it is likely to be a threat based on its behavior. This grants operators the ability to make fast, quality decisions, instead of being bogged down in signal analysis.
